GOVERNMENT CONDEMNED. MONSTER LABOUR PETITION. -(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sunday. - An intimation that the Labour Party had decided to present a linnstex signed petition to Parliament condemning the Government’s actions in the present session and calling on it to resign was given by Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., at a meeting of protest against the actions of the Government held at the Labour Hall, Petone, this afternoon. The meeting was attended by about 250 people. . Mr O'Brien spoke at length on recent legislation In the absence of Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P., Mr J. Roberts secretary of the New Zealand Alliance of Labour, discussed the problems of the day in relation to the workers. A resolution- pledging support .for the petition was passed. MEETING AT INVERCARGILL. REPEAL OF LEGISLATION URGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, . Monday. Mr R. Semple addressed a crowded meeting in the Municipal Theatre on Saturday evening. The Mayor, Mr Miller, presided. Mr Semple declared that the extension of the life of Parliament would b‘e a distinct violation of the constitution, and announced that petition forms will be circulated calling on the Government to resign. It was\ unanimously resolved that the citizens of Invercargill pledge themselves to do all in their power to support the petition calling upon the Government to repeal the legislation relating to outs in pensions, wages, salaries, hospital and education payments; also asking the Government to resign.
