TROTTING AT AUCKLAND

THE AUTUMN MEETING. FIRST FLIGHT’S DOUBLE WIN. A VICTORY FOR FREE LOGAN. The Auckland Trotting Club experienced showe'ry weather and a holding track for its Autumn meeting, which was held on Saturday at Alexandra Park. The attendance was moderate. Excellent racing was provided, a feature of which was the performance of the Waikato representative First Flight in winning the Fergusson and Papatoetoe Handicaps, the leading distance and sprint events respectively of the programme. First Flight is owned by Mr W. Johnstone, of Tamahere and is trained there by G. T. Mitchell. Another success to this area was gained by the Claudelands trained Free Logan, who led the field home in the Henderson Handicap. Free Logan and First Flight have each won at t'heir last three starts. The twelve acceptors started in the Innovation Handicap for which the Ash-hurst bracket Summertime —Hardy Grattan was favoured with £B9 more than Moko Girl, with Amy Etawah third choice. Moko Girl broke in the straight when leading. Zanzibar, the fifth favourite, defeated the eighth choice, M-oko Bells, by half a length, with Moko Girl two lengths and a half away, and Amy Etawah the next to finish. The. sixteen paid up for stood their ground in the Devonport Handicap for which Guid .Hairst was in chief demand, but only £44 better ■supported than Fisher, with Pukemiro next best favoured. The favourite led throughout to score by two lengths from Betterwin, the sixth 'fancy, with Mazda two lengths and a half away, and Wee Machine at the head of the others. Ten acceptors came out for the Fergusson Handicap in which Great Parrish was £lO9 better supported than Arabond, with Carnui third in request. First Flight, who was fifth favourite, won by a length and a quarter from Real Girl, The ninth choice. Anon was a length and a htflf away, with Kewpie’s Triumph fourth. Surprise by Cleao. There was a field of ten in the Franklin Handicap for which Pegaway was a solid favourite with £195 more than Winslow, while Prince Etawah had best support of the others. The eighth favourite Cleao finished fast to beat Prince Etawah by three-quarters of a length. Roife .uidubon was half a head further off and Realty next to finish. Of the.six starters in. the April Handicap, the Auckland trained Modern Light was an odds on favourite with £345 more than Princess Thca, Oliver Thorpe being next in demand. It was an easy win for the favourite, with Oliver Thorpe a length away, followed by Rangihau and Rey de Quest. In the chief event for trotters, the Whitford Handicap, the ten acceptors appeared. Mr Penalty was £172 better considered than Carl Mack, with Windchat third favourite. The seventh favourite, Explosion, won by four lengths from Windchat, who was a neck in front of Mr Penalty. Hardy Grattan made the early pace from Billy Carbine, Parrish Belle, Bessie Parrish and Carl Mack. Hardy Grattan still had charge going up the back the last time.at which stage Mr Penalty, Explosion and Carl Mack were in that order. Explosion went to the front half a mile from home and won by four lengths from Windchat, who was a neck in front of Mr Penalty.
