OBITUARY.
MRS ALICE COATES. EARLY WAIKATO SETTLER. Another link with early Hamilton has been severed by the death In Auckland on Sunday of Mrs Alice Coates, wife of 'Mr Isaac Coates, a well-known pioneer, who was prominent In the early days in the Waikato. The late Mrs Coates, who was a daughter of the late Mr P. Coleman, another early Hamilton settler, was married in 1875. Her husband was generally prominent in the public life of the Waikato for many years. For a time Mr and Mrs Coales were farming on (lie property now occupied by the Ruakura State Farm. They also had a short experience of gold-mining at the Thames goldfields, returning to engage in farming, flaxmilling, and contracting in the Waikato. For five consecutive years ending in 1892, Mrs Coates was Mayoress of'Hamilton. She was highly respected and esteemed for her happy disposition and kindly manner. For the last few years Mr and Mrs Coates has been living In Auckland. Mrs Coates is survived hy her husband and several children, including Mrs John Gillett, of Auckland.
REV. H. W. BURGOYNE. The death has occurred at Rotorua of the Rev. llenry William Burgoyno. a former minister of the Congregational Church, at the age of 83 years.
