OARSMEN IN TRAINING. PREPARING FOR THE BIG DAY. ENTRIES CLOSE ON FRIDAY. It Is many years since so much enthusiasm has been manifested by oarsmen in New 'Zealand rowing 'championships, which will be held in connection with the Hamilton regatta and carnival on Anniversary Day, January 29. Entries, i which close on Friday, are coming in well. The draw for positions will take place at the boathouse next Monday evening, ■ "*• A. Smith, of the Waitemata Club, has taken up his residence in Hamilton, preparatory to training for the single sculls; W. Stevenson Is training In New Plymouth. He has intimated his intention of commencing training on the Waikato shortly'. The Petone and Avon Clubs have notified their intention of competing in the senior events at the regatta. Wairau has also signified that they would be competing in the senior four events. St. George’s, Waitemata and North Shore will have crews on the river next week-end. They are coming from Auckland for a trial run and will be boated by the Hamilton Club. Plenty of Attractions. Apart from the rowing events, the public will be catered for on an unparalleled scale. ' Sideshows of great number and variety, under the'direction of Mr W. H. Paul, will be In evidence. At least 17 St. John Ambulanoe teams will contest the Tanhvha Shield, while the local Amateur Wrestling Association, the South Auckland Caledonian Society, and the Hamilton Canoe Club are arranging comprehensive programmes. Musical programmes will be supplied by the Waikato Regimental and Municipal Band and by the Caledonian Pipe Band.. , In the past the Hamilton Regatta and Carnival Committee has proved itself a versatile and progressive body and fully deserves the whole-hearted support of the public on the forthcoming occasion. ;•
