DEATH OF A JOCKEY.
THE ELLERSLIE FATALITY. INQUIRY BY THE STEWARDS. ' NO EVIDENCE OF BLAME. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The stewards of the Auckland Racing Club yesterday completed an exhaustive inquiry Into the accident which occurred in the Fergusson Handicap, at Ellcrslie, on Tuesday, as the result of which the apprentice rider, IL E. Stocklcy, sustained injuries from which death resulted. The official report stated that the stewards examined the part of the course (near the six furlong post) where the accident occurred and found the track to be In perfect condition. They further found that the cause of the accident was owing to Exaggeration, ridden by Stockley, falling while running in the lead between Beacon Fire, ridden by R. Reed and Nea Lap, ridden by H. Gray. There was no evidence to attach blame to any rider in the race, the horses following in the race unavoidably striking Stockley while he was lying on tho ground. The steward expressed their sincere sympathy with the parents and relatives of the deceased jockey.
