RUSH TO PAY.
BRITAIN’S TAXES. QUEUES AT THE OFFICES. AN UNUSUAL SPECTACLE. (Official Wireless.) (Received Jan. 2, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Jan. 2. London’s most surprising spectacle to-day was the sight of queues of people at the inland revenue collector's offices waiting to pay threequarters of their year’s income tax on the first day it became due. The authorities are astonished at the willing response. If the collectors In the provinces had the same experience as those in London it is estimated that something approaching £20,000,000 was paid in to-day.
