A new phase of terrorism occurred at Calcutta last evening when a Bengali named Ashutosh Neogv was called from his bed by a man who claimed In he a friend and was shol dead on ills doorstep. The murderer escaped. Neogv was a Crown witness in a recent armed robbery case In which several Indians were sentenced. Another prominent topic in the city this morning is an incident which occurred in the Grand Hotel last evening when the Viceroy, Viscount Willingdon. was dining with the European Association. While the dinner was in progress a well-dressed Indian was seen slinking along a corridor. When he was challenged the Indian refused to give his name. Thereupon tie was searched and a loaded revolver was found in his pocket. He was roughly handled and taken to police headquarters, where inquiry proved him to be private secretary to a Mahrajah residing in the hotel. The Viceroy uttered a stern warning to the Congress in a speech at the annual dinner of the European Association. He declared that an attempt by an organisation to impede the constitutional programme, whether by a no-rent or no-reveniie campaign, by boycott, or by defiance of the law’, would be utterly crushed. Lord Willingdon appealed for general co-operation in bringing terrorists to justice. He said tho Government was determined to move as rapidly as possible with constitutional reforms and nothing would be allowed to impede them.
