THE JUNIOR SECTION.

REVIEW OF COMPETINQ TEAMS. SOME EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES With five teams competing for the Howden Cup in the junior section of the Hamilton district competitions the contest has been and still promises to be a particularly close and interesting one. Practically every side has been able to liekl a strong combination,, the allround performance of many members of the teams being worthy of special commendation. The leading team, High School, probably owes its position at the top to ■the capabilities of several of its mcmb rs rather than to its team-work as a whole. A Crabb is a particularly good bowler and easily tops the average list for the grade, while McDonald is an able assistant. The team’s leading batsmen are probably McNally, Gilling and Avery, all of whom have contributed several useful scores, some of which were over the half-century. An Excellent Batsman. Hamilton has been somewhat unfortunate as regards wins in the earlier portion of this season. Unlike the two school teams, High School and Technical, it suffers from a lack of material, thus making the selection of suitable players extremely difficult. However, this is compensated by the versatility and seniority of the majority of the club's members in that grade wiien compared with those of the oilier teams.

Hamilton’s star batsman, T. Elrlck, is a player of exceptional merits, being easily the best man wielding the willow in the junior section. He specialises in no particular stroke, obtains quick mastery over practically any type of bowling and always gives a clever display. Bowling for Hamilton Hoult and Graney have had success, while Graney together with Bullock have ably assisted Elrlck to notch runs. Although a young team and perhaps not up to previous standards, Technical has given some bright displays, particularly when fielding. The team possesses three clever batsmen In Anncer, St. George and Clioat, while tiie latter two, particularly Clioat, have excellent bowling averages. Individual Work Lacking. The Marist Bros. 0.8. Club work well -as a team. Their fielding is good and the only fault is the lack of (several good individual ibatsmen to increase the hatting strength of the team. Although they have registered no particularly high scores, L. Glynn and Jordan give displays of good oareful oricket, while in the howling section the Glynn Brothers have taken the majority of the opposing teams’ wickets. Tho Points Table. At the conclusion of the year’s play the points gained were:— Played. Points.
