IMPROVEMENTS AT LAKE, 7NEW ROAD FORMED. COMPLETION OF GOLF LINKS. Considerable improvement has been effected at the Hamilton Lake during the past year. A work of major importance was the construction of a new roadway which has served to divert vehicular trade from the waterfront and obviate any possible danger to children playing in the vicinity. A fence has been erected on each side of the roadway. Tiie road lias been widened near the parking area, and the bank cut back. A dangerous corner has thus been removed.

Another improvement to the Lako that has been finalised is the completion of the miniature golf links—an innovation which should prove of immense popularity. A small fence lias been erected near the links. A nursery was established near the ladies’ swimming area, over fifty tons of sand placed over the breastwork on the Lake beach, and posts placed on the boundary line of the reserve. During the year it was found advisable, in order to keep sailing craft and rowing boats out of the swimming area, to erect a line of posts, some distance out from the shore. Clearing Work. Clearing work -in the gum plantation resulted in a vast improvement to the far side of the Lake. Dead trees were cut up for posts and these were utilised around t lie Lake grounds. Some 400 wattle trees and 150 poplars and 100 gum trees were planted in the reserve. At various points around the Lake weeping and pussy willows were planted. Several were also planted on the Island and should serve as an ideal resting place for the water birds. Near the fern house a number of Australian king ferns are doing well. On the new roadway intersection a triangle has been laid put with red bedding begonias, blue ageratums and lobelia. The use of the special weed-cutter during the year has resulted in the lake being comparatively free of unsightly weed over the major portion of the water. At Seddon Park. At Seddon Park a commencement has been made towards the improvement of the bank around the playing area. When finished the even slope Ilia I, will result can be mowed every week. . The hedge was removed from the London Street side, throwing the park open from the main gates to the children’s playing area.
