THE AUCKLAND MEETING. FINAL GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE. GOLDEN WINGS SPRINTS WELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Heavy rain fell overnight but It cleared early this morning and though dull and threatening the weather remained fine for the final gallops at Ellerslie. The course proper, with (he poles 35 feet out from the rails, was used for practically all fast work but there were a few gallops on the No. 3 grass track. The ground cut up a bit and the going was on the dead side. There were several good gallops registered, those of Admiral Drake, Dunraven, Jaloux, Peter Jackson, Taneriri, Karangapai, Hit The Deck, Princess Bede. Golden Wings, Arisus, La Moderne, Inllalion, Lack and Gay Lap being -among the best. On I lie course proper Admiral Drake and Dunraven jumped off at the mile post and after running the first half in 50 1-5, completed the disiance in 1.44 2-5. This was a good gallop, the Cup horse being a shade in front.

Grand Spirit and Full Measure ran three furlongs in 37 3-ss, six furlongs in J. 20. The Railway Handicap candidates Lady Quex and Silvermine jumped off at the six furlong post. Running the first three furlongs in 39 2-ss, they completed their task in 1-19 4-5. The former was slightly In front at the finish, but both worked well.

Cup Candidates. Jaloux, Taneriri and Peter Jackson finished almost in line with Sir Mond over a length away, at the end of a mile and a-quarter which occupied 2.17 1-5, the last round taking 2.7 2-5. Jaloux and Taneriri made the pace for most of the way, but Peter Jackson was right up with them on the post. A good effort was registered by Karangapai over seven furlongs which lie covered in 1.31 1-5. Baroscope and Awaken went with him, the former finishing almost on terms with Karangapai, while Awaken was a couple of lengths away.

Juniper, Shatter and Cadland recorded 1.19 1-5 for six furlongs, finishing as named. Cadland was not bustled in the straight.

Spoon and Azalea were sent seven furlongs, running the first four furlongs in 49 4-ss, and the full distance in 1.32 1-5. Both impressed. FIJI Beaten. Green Linnet and Pomp were on terms, several lengths ahead of Fiji, over six furlongs in 1.19. The Great Northern Foal Stakes' candidates, La Moderne and Inflation were timed to run five furlongs in 1.4 3-5.' La Moderne was slightly in front at the end but Inflation could have done better. Persham was in front of Flying Prince over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. Vandyke ran a similar distance in 1.19 2-5.

Midinette, Princess' Bell and Gold Trail got to the end of five furlongs in 1.5_, Midinette working impressively. Gay Crest beat. Seatown by several lengths over a mile in i. 46. Best Six Furlongs. The best, six furlongs was registered by the Te Rapa candidates, Hit The Deck and Princess Bede, who ran the distance in 1.18 4-5, Hit the Deck being in front. The Railway candidates, Arisus and Chromadyne, sprinted live furlongs in 1.3. Arisus, who carried a very light-weight defeated his companion by several lengths. The Cup horses, Compris and Great Star got to the end of a mile arid aquarter in 2.21 1-5, the final round occupying 2.10 3-5. They could have done better. Golden Wings sprinted half a mile brilliantly in 49 4-ss. This was easily the best of the morning over the distance.

The Foal Stakes’ candidate, Lack, ran half a mile in 51 -4-ss. He was loafing a bit at the finish.

The best five furlongs of the morning was credited to Gay Lap, who, accompanied by Autumn Sun, covered the distance in 1.2 4-5.
