CHATHAM CUP FINAL. TRAMUREWA THE WINNERS. EXTRA TIME PLAYED. WELLINGTON, Saturday. For the second time, a record for New Zealand, Tramurewa (Auckland) have won the club championship of the Dominion by their defeat this afternoon of Nomads (Christchurch). In a game that was characterised by thrilling incidents throughout, the visiting eleven rose superior to their opponents, and after a goalless draw in the first spell there was a crop of goals In the seoond, Tramurewa getting five and Nomads two. There was no score at half-time. The second spell had barely begun when Wilson put Nomads ahead, while a moment later Goode goaled with a snap shot—Nomads 2, Tramurewa 0. Auckland now worked baok,. but their good work was undone by poor kicking, until Bell connected with a second of two neat centres by Mill, and headed nicely through—Nomads 2, Tramurewa 1. Auckland swung back and after fine shots by Mill and Ballooh, Bell just failed to got there In lime when Sharr fumbled. Bell atoned the next moment by scoring from a melee in the goal front—Nomads 2, Tramurewa 2. This was the score ,at the final whistle. A half-hour extra time was ordered. H. Donaldson and Spong scored In the first quarter and Bell in the second, the final score being: Tramurewa 5 Nomads 2 ANSELL CUP CHALLENGE. WANDERERS v. Y.M.C.A. The first match of the season for possession of the Ansell Memorial Challenge Cup was played at- Seddon Park on Saturday, between Wanderers (holders) and Y.M.C.A. (challengers). Ground conditions were good, hut a nasty cross wind proved troublesome to both players and spectators. The teams were:— Hamilton AVanderer.s.—McLean, Imrie, King, Morgan, Phillips, Smith, Edmondson, Gardiner, Yates, Bullock, Watson. Hamilton Williams, Ashton, Lewis, Mills, D. Crabb, Emerson, Smith, Phillips, J. Crabb, Wallace. The Game. Wanderers won the toss and set Y’.M.C.A. to face the sun and -wind'. First progress was a run by Edmondson, but Ashton relieved. The wind was evidently a militating factor by swaying the play to the railway side of the ground. Nice play by Phillips and Wallace ,looked v dangerous until Imrie cleared with a powerful kick. Play was more or loss oonflned to Y.M. territory, but the Wanderers’ attack did not blend sufficiently well to cause Russell much conoern. Play swung to the other end and the blues’ goal underwent the nearest escape so far. Phillips was responsible, the centre’s finishing effort travelling right across the goal and past the post—a near thing. Wanderers Open. Combined play by Gardiner and Edmondson brought Wanderers the lead. Ashton stopped a pass from the inside man with his hand about 20 yards out. Gardiner took the free and drove high into the net, giving Russell little chance to save-—Wanderers 1, Y'.M.C.A. 0. Play proved keener after this, with Y.M. struggling hard against the wind. Imrie.was the strong man in Wanderers' defence hereabouts, the fullback repelling several promising raids. A scramble in front of McLean caused some excitement, Imrie eventually kicking clear. Joe Crabb was doing very well in bis unaccustomed position at jnside left and nearly levelled the scores off a corner taken toy Emerson, his hook shot missing by feet only. However, It was not Y.M.’s day, and In .a few minutes Wanderers were two up, partly through clever play by Smith. Wanderers Inoreaso Lead. Seouring near the • half-way line, Smith out in towards the centre of the field, and then swung out a long pass to Watson, who was unmarked. The winger ran on and cutting into the penalty area drove hard. Russell managed to get his fingers to the ball hut was unable to stop it—Wanderers 2, Y.M.C.A. 0. Y.M. continued to have a fair share of the midfield play, tout could not maintain the attack. Nearing halftime Wanderers went further ahead through Yates. Edmondson rounded Crabb and crossed hard into goal along the ground. Yates was in position and diverted the cross past Russell—• Wanderers 3, Y.M.C.A. 0. Half-time arrived with the scores unchanged.

The Seoond Half. On resuming Y.M. slightly altered their ranks, Ashton going to oentreforward. Play was interesting, with hopes of Y.M. reduoing the deficit. The first.incident of note was a good corner kick by Emerson, which caused a wild soramble In front of McLean. Keeping at it, the Wanderers’ defence was kept penned in. Phillips had r good shot which the keeper safely disposed of, and a similar effort from Mills met with a like fate. There f was little science toeing displayed, both teams evidently believing in hitting the hail hard qnd following up. Wanderers gradually shook off the pressure and following a series of tussles between D. Crabb and Edmondson, the latter left It on for Yates and Gardiner, hut offside nullified the score. Both goals were called on in a series of raids, with King and D. Crabb conspicuous toy strong kicking. The Y.M.- goal had a narrow escape when Watson got dean through and drove over the bar. The game was still Interesting, and In a spell of attaok by Crabb and Wallace, Morgan was penalised for hands just outside the dreaded area. Mills made an excellent job of the free, McLean doing well to fist it out. Wanderers’ defence hereabouts endured a spell of heavy pressure which only produced a couple ,of corner kicks. Nearing time, Wanderers went further ahead. Nioe passing by Bullock and Watson ended in a corner being conceded. Watson took the kick against the wind and scored direct, the ball striking the far post and entering the net.—Wanderers'4, Y.M.C.A. O. Y.M. kept battling away, tout gained no reward, excellent tries toy Wallace and Phillips meeting with no luck. The final whistle arrived with the scores—Wanderers 4, Y.M.C.A. 0. Mr J.
