RUGBY FOOTBALL.

THE PEACE CUP. MORRINSVJLLE'S SUCCESS. THE GAME WITH ROTORUA. Morrinsville played their first match, since winning the Peace Cup from Hamilton, when they met and defeated Rotorua by 14 points to 3 points, at Morrinsville on Saturday. The game, while it. did not reach any marked heights from the quality standard, was interesting. Morrinsville would have been unlucky to have lost, but it was not until the final twenty minutes of play that they definitely asserted their superiority in the scoring sense. For a lengthy period the score stood at 6—3. but a converted try and a try which were secured by Morrinsville in the second spell definitely sealed the issue. Thp play was chiefly a keen tussle between the forwards with occasional flashes of rearguard action in which Morrinsville were the more finished, although many of their efforts were far from effective. The holders will play their next, game for the Cup against Te Aroha on Saturday week.

The Winners Reviewed. Thomas, at full-back, always made sure of the line, although there were times when the measure of ground gained was brief. He tackled well. Harnett and Campbell, the xving three-quarters, did not get many opportunities from passing movements. The former was more favoured by the run of play and made an attractive showing. He was always, looking for work. Anderson, at centre, put plenty of pep into his game, his speed being an asset. He was unlucky, owing to the ball touching a player’s hand in flight, not to have secured the field goal he put over early in the game. Il was a fine kick. The five-eighths, W. Cameron and Robson (first were not a happy pair. Robson's failure to handle effectively frustrated many passing efforts. Cameron was inclined to over-do the kicking, although there were occasions when his efforts in this connection were valuable. Woodley, the half-back, got the ball away in the first half and it was no fault of his that the attack broke down. In the second half the forwards. although heeling, often wilfully refrained from letting the ball out. The home pack worked hard. C. Cameron and Leeson stood out, while Roach. Hedley and Reynolds were also good toilers. Challengers Reviewed. Rotorua were a fit team and eager but they lack finesse in forwards and barks, while the positional play of the latter was often faulty. im several occasions they got close to Morrinsvllle’s line hut had not the ability to seal the opportunities. Sutherland, the full bark, had a busy time and was a fair defender. Goodwin, on the wing. put in several stri^aig dashes, but they lacked support, very often. N"t much was seen of M. Morrison, on Hie other wing, but T. Mor”;<on, the centre, got through a useful measure of drfensive work and onn'ributrd the penalty goal, the only points to the challengers. Of the. five eighths. Steel and M. Thomas, the former was the best of the backs.
