LOSSES IN LANCASHIRE. DROP IN COTTON VALUES. SHEFFIELD MAKES A DISCOVERY. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 11. Heavy losses were inflicted on the cotton trade in Lancashire owing to the drop in the price of raw cotton yesterday to a general level of 3.64 d per lb., which is the lowest recorded figure for 31 years. The drop is the sequel to the surprisingly high estimate of the AmeiTcan cotton crop. In addition to the season's crop, which is expected to yield 15,000,000 bales, there are 9,000,000 bales from the previous crops in stock in the United States and elsewhere.
The stocks of raw cotton held in England are estimated at almost 1,000.000 bales, upon which the drop in value amounts in the aggregate to about £1,500,000.
A new process for making articles of table ware, such as forks and spoons, which has the appearance ol real gold, at a less cost than similar articles can be produced in electroplated nickel silver, has been discovered in Sheffield, and the articles are proving to be in steady demand.
