Broadbent, a prominent Australian airman, accomplished a notable solo Hight to-day by covering the disdance between Brisbane and Adelaide, via Sydney and Melbourne, in one day, a journey of about 1350 miles. Mr Broadbent left Brisbane just after midnight, and reached Adelaide at about G p.m. Bad weather was experienced for most of the trip. The airman now proposes to fly round Australia in seven days. SPEEDY MACHINES. SCHNEIDER CUP CONTESTANTS. (Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 11. A new air mail carrier, with a maximum speed of 170 miles an hour, has been built by A. V. Roe and Company, Limited. It is capable of carrying a load of 9001 b., which is regarded as ample for fast mail services in the Dominions, for which it is primarily intended.

The machine has a speed of more than 140 miles an hour, and it has a range of about GOO miles at this speed. Except for the fabric coverings, the machine is an all-metal biplane. A small company of experts and journalists to-day inspected the two new racing Vickers supermarine RollsRoyce S6B seaplanes, which have been specially constructed for use by the British team in the Schneider Cup race, and which are expected to prove the fastest aircraft ever built.
