OTOROHANGA COUNTY.
STATE OF FINANCES. [At a meeting of the Otorohanga County Council, presided over by Mr F. Potts, the finances of the various ridings on August 11, were reported to be as follows:— Honikiwi, £ll3 3s 8d debit; Mangaorongo, £478 9s 9d debit; Te Bau-a-Moa, £169 3s debit; Walpa, £42 7s 8d credit; Wharcpapa, £968 10s 3d credit. So far, the subsidy earned on general rates struck for the year ending March 31. has not come to hand. Allowing for the same amount as last year, with ‘the exception of the Te Rau-a-Moa Riding, the ridings are in approximately the same position as at this period last year, which, under •the circums.tances, was considered satisfactory. The total of rates -struck for the year ended March 31 was £12,903 7s 3d. Of this amount a total of £6560 is 4d had been collected up to March 31, leaving £6343 6s Id outstanding. The rates struck for the year ending March, 1932, arc approximately the same as -the previous year. As from 80 to 85 per cent of the ratepayers are dairy farmers, occupying a very large percentage of more or less broken in country, the rates collected will, to a certain extent, be governed by the price they receive for their cream supplies.
