MYTHICAL LAND.
DOUGHERTY ISLAND. REPORT OF THE DISCOVERY. t nlted Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, August 11. Although the nautical charts indicate the existence of the mysterious Dougherty Island in the great southern ocean, Captain Mackenzie, who was master of the Discovery upon the occasion of her last research expedition, says he saw no sign of such an Island. The Discovery passed over the charted position of Dougherty Island, which is described as being one of the most desolate spots in the great white south, and soundings revealed 2472 fathoms of water. No land was seen and visibility was good for 12 miles.
