BEEF AT WESTFIELD. FURTHER ADVANCE RECORDED. RANGE OF RATES. A further advance In the prices for choice and medium ox beef, with other qualities remaining at last week’s rates will be welcome news for graziers, as It was stated last week that the opinion of the auctioneers on the Immediate prospects of the market was that this week’s sale virtually would decide whether beef and sheep could go higher, (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND. Wednesday. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— At Westfield to-day they penned 261 head (135 steers, 126 cows and heifers; compared with 208 last Wednesday.
There was again a keen demand and choice quality and medium ox showed a further advance. Others sold at last week's rates. Extra choice ox sold to 30s per 1001 b, choice and prime, 27s to 295; secondary and plain, 24s to 265; prime young cow and heifer beef, 24s to 28s; secondary 20s to 235. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £ll to £ll 15s: heavy £lO to £lO 17s 6d; lighter, £8 15s to £9 7s 6d; light. £7 10s to £8 12s 6d; small and unfinished £3 15s to £7 7s 6d; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers , £7 15s to £9; heavy £6 15s to £7 12s 6d; lighter, £5 10s to £6 12s Gd; others, £3 10s to £5 7s 6d.
