Wardville, 1.30 p.m. All matches at Matamata. notes and comments. MATAMATA v. MORRINSVILLE. Great interest was manifested in the meeting of the representative (cams in the Finlay Cup fixture £27 being taken at the gala.

A hard-fought game proved a triumph for Morrinsville forwards, and if the scores had been larger in favour of the visitors it would have been a fair indication of the game. Getting little support from the backs, the visiting vanguard hammered away at Matamata’s line, and several scores were narrowly averted. The hacks showed no penetration and with the abundance of opportunities given them by the scrummers should have run up a big score. Iledlby, the full-back, takes a ball well, and his tackling is good. His line-kicking could be improved. A dash by Anderson provided the

only score of the match. Harnett showed a lot of pace, and his inside men should give him a chance. Robson and W. Cameron were both good on defence, but their transfers lo the three-quarters were a hit slow. Woodley, at half, was going well till he was hurt.

I Leeson, in his right place at last ' as breakaway, led the pack in. a style - reminiscent of Charlie Seeling and Rangi Wilson against the Englishmen in 1903. Welsh, Robinson, and Roacli were other good forwards in a good pack. ,T. Inman made an auspicious appearance as'full-hack for Matamata. His kicking i was better directed than Medley's, and his coloring was sound. Wilson (Patetere) was Hie best of three-quarter line, Fausett being out of position on numerous occasions. Carroll was. Hie best back on the ground, and when lie was hurt Mamma la’s chances were gone. Egan, at half, was well attended to by the op-

position, and lie was not as sure as usual. Story always tears into it, but was not very effective at limes. Carlson and Malligan were Hie two best forwards on the side, Parsell and Simpson failing against Welch and Reynolds for possession in the set serums. The game was played in a good spirit, and was well controlled by Mr 3. E. Senior, of Hamilton.
