CANCER RESEARCH.

SUCCESSFUL DIAGNOSIS. DR. BENDSEN’S METHOD. A DEFINITE ADVANCE. (Official Wireless.) (Received July 29, 11.45 a.m.) RUGBY, July 28. The British Empire cancer campaign authorities have been investigating a claim by Dr. 'Bendien of Zeist (Holland) to have discovered a method of diagnosing caincer as 'the result of tests made. They consider the discovery appears to “mark a definite advance in cancer research.” Under various conditions, 21 specimens were tested: Five were taken from cancerous patients, two from normal people, and fourteen from patients with other diseases! Dr. Bendien correctly diagnosed the five specimens known to be from the cancerous patients, and two from normal individuals. In addition he diagnosed one of tii remainder as cancerous, and further investigation in this case in London proved the diagnosis correct. The campaign authorities emphasise that some time must elapse before ‘the full value of the methods can be obtained; and also that this blood test is for diagnosis purposes alone.
