GANDHI’S DEMANDS.

ALLEGED BREACH OF FAITH. AN ULTIMATUM ISSUED. EXTREMISTS FORCE HIS HANDS. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. CALCUTTA, July 27. The Indian Nationalist leader, Mr Gandhi, alleging a continuance of coercive measures in connection with the collection of revenue in Gujerat, in spite of the assurance which lie says was given to him by the Viceroy, Viscount Willingdon, on his recent visit to Simla, lias sent an ultimatum to the collector at Surat. In this Mr Gandhi demands the return of the revenue within 15 days. Otherwise he threatens to break -off further negotiations.

It is understood that the Viceroy has appealed to Mr Gandhi to hold his hand and not to precipitate a crisis. There is a strong impression that the hand of the Nationalist leader is being forced by Congress extremists into demanding from the Government conditions impossible of acceptance as the price of his attendance at the Round Table Conference.
