THE BUDGET. INTRODUCTION ON THURSDAY. GREAT SAVINGS 'EXPECTED. IN GOVERNMENT ESTIMATES. (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The introduction of the Budget has been promised definitely for Thursday evening, and the Trading Coupons Bill, which is likely to be one of the most interesting bills of the session, is listed for appearance on Wednesday. Together with the Budget will appear the report of Sir Otto Niemeyer on hanking and currency problems. The Prime Minister this afternoon described as the “merest speculation ” -attempts which have been made to predict the contents of the Budget. Great savings are expected to be made by the Government in departmental expenditure. The votes will, in fact, be oondensed to the finest possible limit. The debate on the Budget will begin on 'Tuesday of next week, and it is expected the discussion on the Nlemeyer report will be 'taken simultaneously. To-morrow the house will be asked ■to discuss several Government bills which now await consideration. These •include the Reprint of Statutes Bill, which was. instituted by Sir Thomas Sidey in the Legislative Council, the Rent Restriction Bill, which aims to ease hardship upon tenants in certain areas, including the Hawke’s Bay earthquake district, and the Defence Amendment 'Bill, which deals with the new system of volunteer training. Wednesday, being close to the end of the m'onth, will see 'the appearance of an Imprest Bill, which will be discussed during that afternoon and evening until it 'has passed all stages. Friday will be devoted to private members’ business. Among the measures to be brought down this week will be a bill authorising local bodies throughout the Dominon to lower their rate of Interest in accordance with the decision of the Government and financial institutions.
