CHURCH FINANCE.

ST. GEORGE’S EFFORT. 5000 SHILLING FUND. SUCCESSFUL CONCERT HELD. For several weeks past the parishioners of St. George's, Frankton, have been holding various functions in connection with a 5000 shilling fund to aid church finances. So far excellent progress has been made towards attaining the object, that of raising £250, and last night the fund received a further boost as the result of a parishioners’ social in the Parish Hall. Although the attendance was not as large as was anticipated, the hall was comfortably filled, and an enjoyable evening was passed with music and dancing. The earlier part of the proceedings was devoted to a concert. Mr Reg. Cook had arranged an excellent programme, and all the artists were well received, encores being the rule. During the evening the vicar, Rev. R. J. Boyt, thanked the artists for their entertainment, and said that he was sorry that the attendance of parishioners was not larger.

The following artists contributed to the programme: Miss Olga Kirby, songs, “ The Bird With the Broken Wing” and ‘‘Love, the Jester"; Mr T. Rhydderch Jones, songs, “ The Glory of the Sea” and “Garden of Happiness”; Mr R. Braithwaite, songs, “Mother of Mine” and “Duna”; Mr H. Absolum, humorous songs, “ These Hard Times" and “Mock Ballad”; R. Cook, songs at the piano, including “Burlington Bertie from Bow”; Mr T. Greenin, monologues, “ The Girl on the Stairs,” “ Fineesh, I Go ” and “Cigarette”; Mr E. N. Willoughby, elocution, “ Napoleon’s Tomb ” and “ The Labour Question ”; Mr W. King, violin solos, “ Scottish Airs ” and “ Intermezzo.”

The accompaniments were played by Mesdames H. Absolum and W. King, and Mr Albert Bryant, L.T.C.L.
