WRESTLING.
ALLEY DEFEATS LURICH. MUCH FEELING DISPLAYED. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The wrestling match last evening between Tom Alley and Tom Lurich proved to be one of the most strenuous ever staged in Auckland. Alley won in the seventh round. Much feeling was displayed by the contestants and the audience. Lurich obtained a submission fail 'in the fourth round with a body scissors. When thrown by Alley in the seventh round Lurich was unable to continue. Lurich refused to get on the scales prior to’ taking- the ring. He maintained -t-hat it was a natural superstition. The announcer called Alley’s weight at 14 stone, and that of Lurich at 15st. 91b. This caused Lurich to leave his chair and remonstrate with the announcer in mid-ring. Lurich stated that his weight was 14st. 51b. Amateur Preliminaries. C. Anderson, Bst. 12 Jib., drew with 11. Roberts, lOst. 51b., no falls being G. Mowatt, list. 81b., drew with J. Wilson, 12st. 3|lb., after a strenuous bout without foils. In a special heavy-weight bout of five three-minute rounds E. A. Brown, amateur heavy-weight champion of Wellington, 14st. 61b., drew with George Gardiner, 15st.
MoDOUGALL-DEMETRAL BOUT. A SENSATIONAL ENDING. DUNEDIN, Monday. The wrestling bout between McDougall (14 st.) and H. Demetral (13st. 51b.) to-night 'had a sensational ending, McDougall being carried unconscious to his room on his opponent’s shoulders. On the opening of the sixth round Demetral stepped nimbly aside and McDougall went clean through the ropes to land on the floor on his head and side. He was rendered temporarily unconscious and unable to continue, Demetral being declared th# winner. KARA PASHA BEATS PINTO. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. In a fast and exciting wrestling contest to-night Kara Pasha secured a decision on points over Stanley Pint* after each man had secured a fall.
