In an even and exciting game at Christchurch to-day, the Waikato hockey representatives drew with Canterbury in the challenge for the New Zealand Shield, two goals all. Waikato attacked early, having the better of the first 20 minutes’ play. Spiers (Waikato) then scored a fine goal, McCormick equalising for Canterbury before half-time. Canterbury were much bettor in the second spell, but Waikato maintained their lead when Spiers scored again. Canterbury then made a desperate effort but Jack, the goal-keeper for Waikato, e.ffectod great saves.
