ITEMS OF INTEREST. (Our Resident Representative). Croquet, The croquet club, at Its annual meeting, elected the. following officers: President, Mrs Plerard; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames Park and Alexander; secretary, Mrs W. Lawson; committee, Mesdames Hogg, F. 0. R. Phillips, Turnbull, Reehal, Fry and Hawkins. The club is in a sound financial position. Salaries Reduced. At the meeting of the County Council a “ cutwas applied to the chairman’s annual allowance and the councillors’ allowances for travelling expenses. The salaries of the clerk and the engineer will be reduced by five per cent., at their voluntary suggestion, making their salary £3BO each per annum. A petition was received from 73 ratepayers, asking for a new riding to be formed and termed the Kio Kin riding. The matter will be discussed at the meeting In September. Acclimatisation Society. At a meeting of the Acclimatisation Club, it was decided to recommend the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to close the Waipa for two seasons, from the town to Meadowland. It was decided that the embargo proposed by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society on the use of inanga as bait in the Otorohanga district be opposed. It was resolved to arrange for a comprehensive shag drive to destroy the shag rookeries on the upper reaches of the Waipa river and elsewhere.
