The Merlin correspondent of Hie News-Chronicle says Ihe dramatic decision of Hie Bank of England to provide a credit of £ 1,500,000 for AusIria lias averted I lie probable declaration of Austria’s bankruptcy. Negotiations between the Austrian Government and French hankers have broken down, owing to the French political demands. The Vienna newspapers welcome the Rank of England's action, as showing that British financiers arc prepared to apply their vast resources to the restoration of European finance.
