LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Agriculture Ins received the following cablegram, dated 6th. instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : Tallow.—Pronounced weakness in South American has continued, but at present market steadier. Very little enquiry for spot. Prices nominal and quotations slightly lower. Hemp: Manila market firmer, Fair business has been done; “K” grade for May/July shipment sold up to £l6 17s 6d and August/October shipment £l7 17s 6d. ■Sisal: Market quiet but steady. No. 1 good marks afloat sold £ls. 15s. June/August shipment quoted at same price by buyers, fair average quality £ls 10s buyers. Mexican Co-opera-tive announces new price for good white equal to £ls 10s c.i.f. England or Continent. New Zealand.—Nothing doing and quotations nominally unchanged. Nn first hand sales reported. Fruit.—Market firmer on account light supplies. New Zealand practically cleared. Current prices are: Apples, Jonathan and Statesman, 11s to 14s, Delicious, Sturmer and Ballarat 11s to 13s, Granny Smith 16s, others 11s to 12s.
RANGIRIRI STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report that at their Rangiriri .stock sale only a medium yarding of cattle came forward. They quote:—Medium fat cows, £4 to £4 ss; forward conditioned cows, 39s to £2 ss; boner cows, 20s to 325. In-calf Jersey hefiers, July calvers £6 to £6 10s; in-calf Jersey heifers, August calvers, £4 7s 6d to £5 ss; dairy cows, close to profit £5 10s to £6 ss; store lambs, 5s 8d; store ewes 2s Id.
CAMBRIDGE STOCK SALE. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report: At Cambridge sale we penned an average yarding of sheep and a light yarding of cattle. Late rates were maintained throughout. Quotations: —Fat lambs, 10s to Us 6d; lighter fat lambs, 7s 6d to 9s Id; fat ewes, 9s 6d; fat steers £5; fat cows, £3 to £4 6s; fresh conditioned cows, £2 2s 6d to £2 13.5; store cows, £1 8s to £1 15s; boners, 15s to £1 4s; 2-year steers, £3 2s 6d; heavy porkers, £2 3s to £2 Us; slips, 14s 6d to 18s; weaners, 7s to-lls 7d. CLEARING SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report having held a clearing sale yesterday on account of Mr T. Hastings, of Orakau. Those cows in good condition and close 1 to profit of Mr Hastings’ herd, which consisted mainly of high producing, good qual'ty cattle met with spirited competition from a large attendance of buyers. The whole of his herd averaged £5 2s while the very satisfactory figure of £7 4s was averaged for his sound cows. In the poorer sorts and more backward calvers, bidding was not so free, but late rates were fully maintained. A good list of sundries comprising mostly farm implements, met with the usual demand. Best conditioned cows, close to profit made from £lO 5s to £ll 10s; later calvers, £8 15s to £9 15s; more backword do. £7 to £8 ss; poorer conditioned do. and late calvers, £4 15s to £6 ss; yearling heifers made up to £2 Is; two pedigree Jersey hulls were disposed of at 25gns. each; sows £3 13s to £3 17s; slips 14s 6d to 15s 6d.
