REDUCTION OF SALARIES

Public men generally condemn Mr Lang's proposal to effect Government economies by reducing all public service salaries lo a maximum of £SOO a year. While agreeing that all-round sacrifices are necessary they consider the scheme savoured of communism, that is impracticable, and is directed unfairly against one class. Mr T. R. Bavin ('Leader of the Opposition) said lie could hardly believe the plan bad been put forward seriously, ami would reserve any comment until lie heard more about it.
