The New Zealand-Somerset _ match was resumed to-day in tine weather. The wicket was somewhat difficult owing to rain overnight. Talbot (9) and Blunt (12), took their stand at the croase and the former made 60 and the latter 54 before they were sent back to the pavilion. The team compiled 255 —H up on the county—before the innings closed. Somerset (first innings 244) had lost six wickets for 99 when play ceased for the day. The Play. Talbot attacked the bowling vigorously and added 51 to his over-night score In 50 minutes, hitting three sixes and four fours. He gave a fine display of clean-hitting and his innings was invaluable to his side. Vivian went out lbw at his second ball, but Blunt batted very steadily, it having become apparent that the New Zealanders would have to fight hard for a first innings lead. Blunt put on 54 more slowly than usual. Page was run out in a ourious fashion. He snicked a ball apd overbalanced. Before he could regain the crease the wicket-keeper whipped off the bails. The later batsmen lacked enterprise, and when the ninth wicket fell 11 runs were still needed for a lead. Weir patiently watched White at one end, allowing James finally to place New Zealand ahead. White bowled 50 overs, which included 18 maidens. Somerset batted for 110 minutes, and at one stage it seemed that the whole side might bo out before stumps were drawn. Weir bowled remarkably well, keeping a flawless length and swinging away. He had at one time taken three wickets for five runs in 12 overs. A timely stand by Earle and Case added 56 for the sixth wicket. Case was bowled by Pago's last over. Socurod Good Flnuros.

ENGLISH TEST TEAM. NINE MEMBERS CHOSEN. TRYING OUT YOUNG PLAYERS. United Pres? Assn.—Elcc. Tel. Copy rig'll t. (Received June 9, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 8. The general opinion is that the team to represent England In the Test match against New Zealand (which is to be played at Lord's on June 27, 29 and 30) will be chosen mainly with an eye to l finding young blood to re-capture the “ ashes ” from Australia. It Is understood the following nine have so far been chosen against New Zealand: Jardine (captain), Peebles, Sutcliffe, Hammond, Larwood, Ames, Verity, Bakewell, and probably the Cambridge captain ( Kemp-Welch). Everyone accepts Verity as the successor of the wily Rhodes, while the dashing young Bakewell is regarded as Hio successor of Hobbs as a partner for Sutcliffe. _____
