TRAIN IN DANGER.
ATTEMPT TO DERAIL. OBSTACLE PLACED ON LINE. NO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. An attempt to derail trains was made at a point between Te Awamutu and Te Mawhai on the main .trunk line on Saturday night and fortunately was not attended by serious consequences. A mixed train, travelling front Te Kuiti to Frankton Junction, was stopped about midnight just north of Te -Mawhai by a coil of wire weighing over a hundred-weight, on the permanent way. No damage was done to the train which proceeded on its way when the obstacle had been removed. Another report, which is not confirmed by the railway authorities, states that a similar attempt to derail night trains was made on Friday evening, when a sleeper was placed across the rails in the same locality. A keen look-out is being kept by railway officials and police.
