OBITUARY.
MR W. BAUCKE. The death of Mr William Baucke, of Otorohanga, who has been wellknown to the reading public as “W. 8., Otorohanga." for the past 20 years, occurred at Otorohanga on Saturday. Mr Baucke was a native, of the Dominion, having been born at the Chatham Islands on July 7, 1847. Ills parents hailed from Bavaria. He was a great authority on Maori life. The late Mr Baucke was a prolific writer on subjects connected with the Maori and Maori races, and probably his best-known work is "Where The White Man Treads,” which is considered by many a classic on these subjects. For many years he was a regular contributor to the press under the non-de-plume of “W. 8.”
