HAMILTON .HIGH SCHOOL.

WORK AROUND THE GROUNDS. MANY IMPROVEMENTS EFFECTED. During the past few months many Improvements and additions have been carried out around the grounds and buildings of the Hamilton High School and with the completion of the new baths in sight, the school can now be classed as one of the most up-to-date in the Dominion.

Perhaps the-most notable work has been the erection of the baths. The total sum of nearly £IOOO required 'to carry out this- ui\lertaking was raised by, the efforts of the pupils and staff. Dressing-rooms have yet to be erected, and these are to be executed after the Grecian style of architecture, similar to the pavilion already overlooking the playing fields. When completed the baths scheme should present a striking appearance against the background of green grass and stately trees. The swimming pool is the full regulation size, and will be overlooked by grassy terraces, which are now being formed. It is expected that the baths will be in use in the spring. The privileges of use are to be extended to all old pupils of the school, and doubtless many will avail themselves of the opportunities afforded.

Another important work that is being carried out by the boys of the school is the formation of a new rifle range. Excavations' on the new site, near the school, have reached a very forward stage, and there remains only the surfacing and a number of minor details to be completed. The site of the old range, on the western side of the playing fields, was taken up by the baths scheme. In the southern corner of the grounds an area of about a quarter of an acre Is being utilised for practical work in agriculture. Plots have been prepared, and seed planted. The theoretical work is carried out in the laboratories, and is part of the course of a large number of boys. The agricultural plots are now showing good results. Further improvements are contemplated, and will be carried out during the next few months.
