CROP COMPETITIONS.
RESULTS AT OTOROHANGA. The results of the Annual Field Crop Competition, held under the auspices of the Otorohanga Agricultural and Pastoral Association, are just to hand from the fields Instructors of the Department of Agriculture, Messrs J. G. Shepherd and J. M. MoKenzle, who Judged the crops. Results are: — Swedes.—H. A. Lurman (Rangiatea) Gnrlon's Superlative, weight per acre 50i tons, 1; Peasley and Bell (Otorohanga), Suttons’ superlative, weight per acre 55 tons, 2. Carrots.—J. R. Harper (Otewa), Intermediate Red, weight per acre 33 tons, 1; J. J. Walk or (Otewa), White Belgium, weight 33 tons, 2. - Meadow Hay, (maximum points 30) —.T. J. Walker, herbage and feeding value 12 points, colour and condition 14, total points 20, 1; H. A. Lurman 11, 12—23, 2. Mangolds.—,T. R. Harper, Long Rod, weight per acre 70} lons, total points 9 4}, seed sown in November with Gcwt. Wright Stephenson and Go’s, mangold manure, lGln. drills, 1; G. Langkilde, Sutton’s Prizewinners, weight per acre 47 tons, lolal points 82. sown December i, 01b. seed in 27in, drills, with 5 Lons liquid pig manure and 3cwt. Super plus I}c\vt. 30 per cent., potash, 2. Chou Moellicr, —11. A. Lurman. weight per acre, 34} tons, quality good, total points 51}, sown early November with Gcwt. lime, and super per aero and 21b. seed, 1 ; .1. R. Harper, 40 tons, 51} points, sown early November with scwt. super per acre and 21b. of seed, 2. Ensilage, Hay, Lucerne. —Samples of the above fodders were taken judges, who considered that it would he more satisfactory to judge Ihe crops from the opened stack.
