'.Police Inspector Donald Fraser, now in charge at Hamilton, was, writes an Olorohanga correspondent, in the early days of Settlement stationed as constable at Olorohanga, and whilst on duly one night was attracted by an unusually loud noise and confused native yells. Upon proceeding lo invesligale lie located a band of drunken Maoris, and advised I,hem to disperse. This they would not do, and Constable Fraser called for assistance lo carry out the arrest, of the ringleaders. In the melee Ilia”, followed Ihe then constable was savagely altacked by the infuriated natives, and was badly knocked aboutDelerminalion prevailed, and several of Ihe "Kingites" were arrested. They were duly tried and punished for theiv savage behaviour.
