THE AUCKLAND MEETING.

TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE.

SEVERAL GOOD PERFORMANCES

(By Telegraph—Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Monday. . Beautiful weather prevailed for the final gallops for the Auckland Winter meeting at Ellerslie this morning but the work was just completed when a heavy shower fell. The best efforts of the morning were those of Puriri Park, Gold Money, Gay Lap, Manawhenua and Tetrarchate. Seatown, Llandudno, Standfast, Corinax and Black Duke also went well. Among the hurdle horses Make Up,' Mister Gamp, Nukumai, Carinthla and High Pitch pleased. On No. 1 grass Lady Court ran five furlongs in lm 7 4-ss. The Romeo Ally has improved a good deal during the past few weeks. Gold Money ridden by T. Green, ran five furlongs in lm 5 2-ss, taking 51 4-5 s for the last half-mile. She carried the same weight (9.0) as her impost in the Members’ Handicap. The effort was impressive: Sir Mond was sent over a round, Justify assisting him over the last six furlongs. The round was covered in lm 58 2-ss, the last six furlongs taking lm 225. ' Grand Spirit was going nicely throughout five furlongs in lm 9 3-ss, the last half mile taking 54 3-ss.

Puriri Park’s Good Six,

The best gallop of the morning over a sprint distance was registered by Puriri Park who had Hampton Park as a galloping companion. They ran the first three furlongs in 39s and the six furlongs in lm 19s. Hampton Park got the advantage when they jumped off but Puriri Park beat him comfortably. The latter carried a very light weight, nevertheless the effort was first class. After breakfast, Tanerifi went once round in 2m 3 2-ss, the last six furlongs taking lm 275. Gay Lap easily accounted for Wild Country over six furlongs In lm 20 l-ss.

Valroe was going better than Te Money over six furlongs in lm 22 4-ss.

Manawhenua and Tetrarchate ran five furlongs in lm 5 4-ss. Both went well.

Eager 'Rose beat Patutahi by severe lengths over a round in 2m, the ilnai six .furlongs occupying lm 24 4-ss. Pewa worked nicely over hall' a mile in 54 3-ss.

Pakitere ran five furlongs in lm 6 3-5 s and Copey a round in 2m 7 2-ss. The latter Is in solid racing condition.

Raff light and Royal Survey ran six furlongs in lm 21 l-ss. The Cornwall candidates, Seatown and Llandudno ran seven furlongs in 1.38, the Anal six furlongs taking 1.24 2-5.

Make Up and Mister Gamp. The hurdle candidates, Make Up, Land Mark and Land Measure were companions over a round on the No. 2 grass in 1.59 3-5. They ran the last seven furlongs in 1.38 2-5 and the Anal six in 1.25 3-5. Make Up went exceptionally well.

Mister Gamp was too good for Nukumai and Wako King over a round in 2.0 1-5. The last six furlongs took 1.25 1-5. Mister Gamp did his work in first class stylo and should give a good account of himself in the Great Northern Hurdles.

Inevitable going comfortably, well out from the rails, ran six furlongs In 1.22 3-5.

The Southern jumpers Matu and Antrim Boy, worked well over a round. Kozan was going nicely in front of Full Measure after completing six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. Kozan looks well. This was his best since his arrival. Carinthia went comfortably over a round in 2.12. Cornwall Candidates.

The only mile gallop of the morning was that in which the Cornwall Handicap candidates Black Duke, Corinax and Standfast were associated; After taking 26 l-5s for the first two furlongs, they completed the gallop in 1.49 4-5. Corinax and Black Duke were together in front passing the half-mile post hut, coming round the turn, they went out wide and Standfast ’ came through on the inside to finish in front of Corinax with Black Duke last. Though there was not a great deal between the trio, Black Duke could have done better. High Pitch ran a round, alone, in 2.4. LATEST SCRATCHINGS POSTED. Monetize has been scratched for the Penrose Hurdles and King Win for all engagements at the Auckland Winter Meeting. Tenakoo and Perennis were scratched this morning for all engagements and Birkbcck for the Great Northern Steeplechase.

DISTRICT HORSES

ENGAGEMENTS AT ELLERSLIE. STAR COMET AND THE STEEPLES. The majority of stables in this centre will have representatives engaged at the Auckland Club’s Winter meeting. There was not a great deal of activity on the tracks at Te Rapa this morning, the majority of the candidates being restricted to pace work. Star Comet went once round in 2m its with Page Boy to accompany him over portion of the trip. Star Comet, who gave a good exhibition over the country on Saturday morning, looks in good order for his Great Northern Steeplechase engagement, in which lie will be ridden by P. M. Brady. As Star Comet has handled the Ellerslie country successfully and stays on weil lie can be relied on to give a good account of himself on Saturday. Mervetto was restricted to pace work this morning. The LucullusBrayton marc is to keep her engagement in 111 c Cornwall Handicap. Flying Prince is another of A. Tinker's team engaged in the Cornwall Handicap. These horses will leave for I lie north to-morrow.

Wiltshire’s Preparation

The local trainer, R. Syme, is to leave for Ellerslie to-morrow with Wiltshire, Peiulavies and Wee Prince.

Wiltshire is In have his opening start in the Great 'Northern Steeplechase in which his trainer will ride him, while lie will also have Hie mount on Peiulavies in tho Penrose Hurdles. Wiltshire sustained a knock while

hurdling at the Avondale Autumn meeting and his trainer has had to give the damage attention since. Otherwise the chestnut .is all right and bears a well trained appearance. A recent addition to R. Syrne’s team is a seven-year-old. Australian bred gelding, Lang Veridis, who is owned by two North Auckland sportsmen and had a race on the flat at the Whangarei fixture last month. Lang Veridis was schooled over four pony hurdles this morning which he cleared safely hut carefully. He is a well developed type for jumping.

King Ford’s Rider-

King Ford will be taken to Ellerslie to-morrow by his trainer J. F. Tutchen. The King Lupin gelding liasgone on the right way since his double, win at the Te Kuiti meeting. The Te Aroha horseman E. A. Keesing, Is to ride King Ford in the first division of the Jervois Handicap at Ellerslie on Wednesday.

The local apprentice F. Bentley has been engaged to ride Prince Val in the sprint event, the Members’ Handicap at Ellerslie on Wednesday. The local hurdler, Hakanoa, was railed to Ellerslie this afternoon. The Valkyrian gelding is in good order for his coming engagements. The Cambridge trainer, W. J- McLean, left to-day for Ellerslie with Lucess, Prince Lu, Nassock and Luminary. Lucess has come through a solid preparation and will have a prominent following in the Great Northern Hurdles and the Great Northern Steeplechase, in which the Lucullus gelding will be ridden by F. Foster. Luminary’s lameness was recently diagnosed as due to a growth on the hoof. If it yields to treatment the Day Comet gelding will be started on the later days of the coming meeting.

Several horses from district stables passed through Frankton to-day on their way Lo Ellerslie. They included Indolent, Valstrect, Valreina, Sir Russell and Distress (Te Aroha), Grand Talk and Cristobel (Paeroa), Kalruri, Spalpiko, Desert Glow (Te Awamutu), St. Warrigal, Lucess, Prince Lu, Nassock and Luminary (Cambridge).

The ex-Auckland horse Havaspot won the Casula Handicap, one mile, of 11200 added money, at the Warwick Farm races yesterday. He carried 9.0 and was ridden by M. McCarten, winning by a neck from Celtic, 8.11 (Davidson), with Tontonl, 8.10 (J. Pike), third. Traymobilo was fourth. Eighteen started. Time, 1.41. Havaspot, who was formerly owned and trained by J. T. Jamieson, of Auckland, now races in the colours of Mr D. G. Fraser.
