THE WORLD OF MUSIC.
Mischa Levitzki for Hamilton. Mischa Levitzki, who will give a recital at Hamilton Theatre Royal on June 11, occupies a unique' place in the hearts of the public of Australia and New Zealand, and is certainly the most popular pianist who has toured in the Southern Hemisphere. Apart from his dazzling genius as a pianist, Levitzki fascinates his audience with his spontaneity, his utter lack of mannerisms, his boyishness, and his willingness to accede to the requests for “special numbers”— in other words, he possesses a delightful personality that arouses a feeling of genuine affection on the part of the auditors. Describing the opening concert of the Australian and New Zealand tour, the critlo of the Melbourne Argus wrote: "Levitzki has developed into one of the most consummate technicians who has ever visited Australia. His virtuosity is, indeed, of so remarkable a nature that executive difficulties may truthfully be said not to exist for him. His sensational power and vitality, combined with dazzling velocity, make him a superb player of Liszt, and in the ‘Sixth Hungarian Rhapsody’ and the ‘‘Campanella’ study—given as an extra—he fairly electrified his audience.” Hamilton Muslo Students’ Association. The formation in Hamilton this week of a Music Students’ Association is an important move, and should result in a great quickening of interest in music. The membership, I understand, is open to students, teachers and all interested. The association is to be registered,, and has decided to accept the offer of affiliation with the Auckland Piano Students’ Association. An open meeting will be held shortly, at which contemporary music will be dealt with. Later it is hoped to hold a Brahms recital, an Elizabethan evening, and other meetings devoted to various periods and composers. Miss Rucroft has been the prime mover in the formation of the association. She lias the support of a strong committee, and with the backing of the public there is no reason why the new body should not prove very successful*
