A platoon of gendarmes was sent to San Giorgio to. wipe out the Scarfo, a family of brigands who are terrifying Calabria. - The gendarmes besieged a house, from which the brigands emerged, and gave battle, killing the chief commissioner and five gendarmes, the brigands escaping intact. .' •;
