BRITISH REINFORCEMENTS, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DELHI, May 26. When the rising started In Burma the military forces consisted of seven infantry battalions, two British and five of the Indian Army, besides artillery and auxiliary troops. With the reinforcements of four infantry batallions, which are now on their way, and five additional companies of military police which are to be raised, the forces at the disposal of the Government should be more than adequate to deal with the situation. A report on the Burma situation Issued by the India Office refers to minor encounters between Government forces and bodies of rebels id the Tharawaddy,' Henyada and Thayetmyo districts during the past week, None occurred in the Prome district, where the rebels are said to have failed to obtain adherents and to be reduced to about forty, who are hiding near the Thayetmyo border. Immediate action prevented outbreaks in several districts in Upper and Lower Burma. The situation is reported to ha under control, although occasional attacks on Indians and Chinese oocurred in several districts. The Rangoon Telegraph, referring to the dispatch of troops to-day, from India to Burma, says an Official statement has been issued explaining that these are coming to put down the rebellion, prevent outrages against Indians, and generally restore law and order.
