GARDEN PLACE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In an account of a meeting held at Hamilton East on Wednesday the Mayor is reported to have said that the ultimate fate of Garden Place was f.or some future council to decide. His Worship seems to have skilfully evaded giving the retiring Council's view on the matter, but I venture to say that if Mr Fow and those of his councillors seeking re-election are returned, Garden Place hill will soon be a thing of the past. If my supposition Is Incorrect why Is it that only one face of Anglesea Street cutting is being concretod and apparently only one side kerbed? Moreover, If the retiring Mayor and councillors regain office the ratepayers", judging by the recent treatment meted out to them in connection with the raising of the Anglesea Street loan,'will have no say in whether the main scheme of removing Garden Place hill is to be done or not. £16,500 is being expended on the cutting, what is it going to cost to remove the hill? —I am, etc., A RATEPAYER.
