Unemployment Secretary Appointed. As a result of the agreement between the Town Boar.d and the County Council, Mr Harry Buchanan has been appointed secretary to the Unemployment Committee, his territory embracing all that part of the county between Okoroire and the northern county boundary. Presbyterian Function. In connection with the Harvest Thanksgiving services in the Presbyterian Church, the collection of produce was sold on Monday evening in 3t. Andrew’s- Hall. There were a large number of buyers and everythink was sold. Mr Dickie acted as auctioneer and over £lB was realised. Electrlo Current Blockage. A few days ago a schoolboy threw a wire over some of the main electricity feeders near the power sub-station in Tower Road. As a result all milking machines from Putaruru to Kiwitahi were put out of action for some time. St. Patrick’s Night Dance. A successful dance was held on Tuesday night in aid of the Convent funds. There was a good attendance. Messrs G. Fitzgerald and P. Kilbride acted as M’s.C. and the music was supplied by local talent. Main Highways. Messrs Isherwood and Bellam, of Auckland are engaged on their Main Highway contracts in the town area. That portion from the Glaxo Factory to the town boundary is completed and work Is now well under way on Arawa Street. Personal. The Misses Pellow, of Hawke's Bay arc the guests of Miss E. Vospcr. Mrs Conner, of Napier, who has been the guest of Mrs J. W. Simpson has returned to Hawke's Bay. Mrs Oxley, of Wellington, is the guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs C. Cobbani, To Poi. Airs and .Miss E. Allison have returned from a holiday on the Thames Coast.
