TOPICS OF THE MOMENT. (Our Resident Representative.) OTOROHANGA, Thursday. At the last meeting of the Otorohanga County Council, Cr. W. J. Bowyer (Honikiwi) moved that all salaries he reduced 10 per certt., including councillors and the chairman’s allowances, but not the 'two 1 girl typists in the office. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Bible Society. The Auckland district organising secretary for the above, Miss Young, has collected £l9 here on behalf of the society Educational. The Auckland Board of Education has approved of the appointment of Mrs Nelson as sewing mistress at the Te Raumaulcu School. The erection of a dental clinic at Otorohanga School has been approved, and the Department has applied for a subsidy. Rehearing Wanted. In the Magistrate’s Court Laurence William Pickett applied for a rehearing. This was a matter in respect of which a line was inflicted on Pickett, and his taxi driver’s license was cancelled for three months, for negligent driving. The case came before Llic Court at the December sitting and a plea of guilty was entered. Counsel for Pickdtt asked for a rehearing of the case, as defendant was a taxi-driver, and this was his sole means of earning a livelihood for himself and three children. The police had no objection to a re-hearing, as defendant had been driving cars for some seventeen years. His Worship ordered that Pickett be returned his license ,
