DRASTIC ACTION BY BANKERS* BIG INCREASE ANNOUNCED. HIGHEST KNOWN IN AUSTRALIA. United Press Assr.—Elec. Tel Copyright, (Received Jan. 17, 10.15 a.m.) - ' MELBOURNE, Jan. 17. Drastic action was taken at the Bankers’ Conference to check further dealings in the exchange on London in the outside market. It was deoided to Inorease at once the telegraph transfer buying rate for London money from 2118 to £125, and the selling rate from £llß 7s 6d to £125 10s. This is said to be the highest ex* change rate on record for Australia.
