TE AROHA JUBILEE.

THE CHILDREN’S DAY. I ENTHUSIASTIC GATHERING. AN ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. The children of practically all the schools in the district assembled at the Herries Memorial Park, when the town was en fete in keeping with the jubilee carnival spirit. Beautiful weather was again experienced, and a splendidly arranged programme of events was run. Music was provided by the Municipal Band, and the variety of side-shows were well patronised. After the luncheon adjournment the juveniles assembled at the centre of the oval, where they listened to short addresses. The Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, said the children were there to do honour to those who had pioneered the district when it was principally fern,-tea tree and swamp. As the people were honouring the early settlers, he hoped the children would follow in the same manner. 'He was pleased to have the Rev. J. A. Loughin with them. He had been in Te Aroha 50 years ago, and his message to them was that the future was in their hands, for a good foundation had been laid by the pioneers. The keynote for the future was character and personality. Mr A. * Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, suggested that the sports day be made an annual function. It had been said that too much time was devoted to sport, but so far as the children were concerned, it developed them physically and mentally. Mr Burns handed to the Te Aroha Oistrich School headmaster the silver cup donated locally and won by Master Magill. The Sports Results.
