MR GEORGE E. CLARK. CELEBRATES 80TH BIRTHDAY. GRAND OLD MAN OF DISTRICT. Mr George E. Clark, of Cambridge, yesterday celebrated bis 90th birthday. ~ Mr Clark, who is well-known as the founder and head of the Arm of Clark and Sons, of Cambridge, Hamilton and Waharoa, retains all his faculties and enjoys, good health. He has never bad a serious illness in bis life, a fact he ascribes to an active life and to moderation in all things. Mr Clark still daily attends as the head of his business and allows himself only two half-days a week for recreation. Mr Clark, who was born in Cambridgeshire, England, in 1840, came to New Zealand in 1864, and three years later purchased a farm of 300 acres at Pukeroro for 30s an acre, a property that is now one of the finest parts of the Cambridge district. Subsequently Mr Clark increased his holding to 600 acres and he farmed this successfully for 27 years, when he established his business in Cambridge. Mr Clark has always taken an active interest in agricultural matters and was organiser of the original Waikato Farmers’ Club. He was a member of the Waikato County Council for six years, of the Cambridge Road Board for several years and is an active member dt the Waikato Central Agricultural and Pastoral Association Mr Clark was also a member of the borough council. ' Mr Clark is a non-smoker and abstainer from liquor. Every morning he has a cold shower.
Mrs Clark died in 1913. The children are: Mesdames A. W. Gane and A. R. Cox (Cambridge) and Messrs. W. E. Clark 11. 11. Clark (Hamilton), G. A. Clark and A. R. Clark (Cambridge).
