THE FISHING SEASON.

GOOD CATCHES RECORDED. -LOCAL ANGLERS SUCCESSFUL. Anglers are experiencing excellent sport with the trout at Taup-o and other popular fishing grounds, and some good catches have been recorded. Fishing at Atiamuri a party of Matamata anglers met with considerable success, while two Hamilton sportsmen,: Messrs W. O’Kane and J. S. Amundsen, secured a good hag in the Kaimai stream. At Taupo the fish are in particularly good condition, and are rising well. Trolling from the launch Tainui on the lake on Sunday, Mr D. N. Hay and party, of Matamata, landed 32 fish, which averaged 61b, while Mr J. E. Cummings and party, also of Matamata, fishing from the launch Tamati, caught 26. Mrs Churton and party, of Wairakei, landed 21 trout, while before breakfast Messrs P. Grey and E. Dansey, of Rotorua, caught 14 fish with the fly.

Fishing near the Huka Falls during the week-end, Dr. T. C. Fraser, of Hamilton, experienced excellent sport. He landed 14 fish in fine condition. Between Arapuni and Horahora other sportsmen have met with considerable success. Messrs 11. L. Hawke and A. E. Missen, of Hamilton, secured some good catches over the weekend. The fish in the lower reaches of the river are not in such good condition as those caught around Taupo, but nevertheless offer good sport. Fishermen have met with most .success between Arapuni and Horahora with the spoon and the “ sprat.” Owing to the heavy rains there "has been little offering in the tributaries of the Waikato.

At Ngongotaha, near Rotorua, a •Hamilton angler caught the limit on Sunday.
