An application by the “Friends of the Soviet Union" to hold a social and dance in the Town Hall was refused by the City Finance . Committee. Alderman J. Garden, a Coinmunist, protested strongly. He said: ‘The time will come when we will give a similar refusal to all people who make application for like purposes, and I do not care whther it is to entertain the Duke of York or anybody else, we will say ‘NoI’”
