The Duke of Gloucester, on behalf of King George, presented a gold sceptre to Ihe Empress. He also gave the Emperor the insignia of the Victorian order and offered the _ King’s congratulations upon his aceension and wished him a prosperous reign. The Emperor and Empress received the Duke seated on gilded thrones in Ibe great crimson-curtained hall of the palaca.
