TOPICS OF THE MOMENT. (Our Resident Representative.) Fall In Land Values. During recent months there v ha3 been a decided fall in land values throughout this territory. This applies to both dairying and mixed stock lands. Vendors have reduced their reserves to as much as 20 per cent, in some instances. A farmer in the Otorohanga district who refused £29 10s per acre for his 45-cow farm' during the land boom of some seven years ago, now has the place on the market, at £l4. The price of dairying products at the moment is preventing vendors from securing purchasers, even at the greatly reduced reserves obtaining. The demand for sheep and cattle country is lifeless, and agents generally report a very lean month’s business.

Where, years ago, numbers of young men were seeking cheap backcountry holdings, for breeding and rearing stock, this class of settler would now appear to be as 'extinct as the moa. Similar young men are in evidence still, but they are invariably seeking a job. Cycle Racing. At a largely attended meeting of cyclists and enthusiasts it was decided to form a Cycle Racing Club, the first in the district. The new club, which was named the King Country Cycle Club, will cater for both amateur and professional wheelmen. Mr F. Shearsby was elected chairman (pro tern), and Messrs Cooper, Smith, Webster, and Olds jun., committeemen. Mr Colin Cameron was unanimously elected hon. secretary. The Crops. The earlier planted potato crops are in splendid condition, and unless checked by blight promise to yield heavy results. . The various catch crops, established in early September, are putting forth vigorous growth, and these indicate that they will furnish substantial assistance to the milking herds if a dry summer prevails. “ The Sleeping Beauty.” There was a splendid audience to witness the staging of the popular juvenile operetta, The Sle.eping Beauty.” Everything went with a swing. The net proceeds were considered above expectations, and these will be divided equally between the High School and' the Anglican Church funds. ___
