PREPARATION FOR SHOW. RIDING SCHOOL AT HAUTAPU. Mr Chas. Hargreaves’ farm at Hautapu is a very nusy scene on Saturday afternoons, when some 20 or 30 children assemble with their ponies to practise for the children s events at the Waikato Slic*v at Hamilton. The children go through all the events, including high jumps, llighis of hurdles and riding ring. Last Saturday Mr Hargreaves had a practice for the baby riding contest, in this event Hie ponies arc found, and also a girl to lead the pony is provided, the mother having Lo walk alongside the baby, who sits astride Hie pony and holds the reins in the left hand and a stick in Hie right hand. The prize goes lo the baby who shows most interest iii his mount. They have now a great many entries in this event but hope to have a great many more. There are three high jumps in this section, and in all the high jumps Ponlo, Hie riding dog, will compete against the children. All these events will take place in Hie large ring in front of the grandstand. A new event organised this year by Mr Hargreaves is the high jump for men, which will take place in the children's ring at 3.30 p.m. on the second day of the show. At the practice last week a meeting was held, and a committee formed. This committee is to help handle these events on Hie day of the show. The following captains were elected: —syd. While, Ray Russell, Glynn Bourke", Fenton Uourlce, Blennie U’Neil, Gwen Hinton (secretary). There will be another practice next Saturday at Mr Hargreaves’ farm, llautapu, when all those interested are invited lo attend. Parents are speciallv invited.
