BAZAAR & SALE OF WORK.

MATANGI UNITED GUILD. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions prevailing on Wednesday, a large number of people attended the annual bazaar and sale of work held in connection with the Matangi United Ladies’ Guild in the public hall. Rev. A. 0. Harris and Rev. D. H. Hay in a. few appropriate words declared the bazaar open. The main hall and stage were tastefully decorated with pastel shaded streamers, and the supper room was transformed with’ Iceland poppy-tinted paper, flowers, and greenery. The various stallholders were kept busy during the afternoon and evening, and the president. treasurer and secretary, Mesdames Marychurch, Hay, and Hicks, report a very satisfactory result of the day’s effort The following were declared the winners of various competitions:— Decorated cake, Mrs Dixon and Mr W. Tomlinson tied with correct weight; novel competition, Mrs J. T. Bryant; nail-driving, ladies, Mrs Bryant and Miss Ruby Shaw.; men, Mr E. Thompson. The stallholders were: —Fancy, Mesdames McDowell and Lynds; plain, Mesdames Cameron, J. Shaw and Middlemiss; produce, Mesdames T. Shaw, McKenzie, and Hutchins; sweets. Mesdames Smith

and Buckingham and Miss Mavis Shaw; bran tub, Misses E. Thompson and A. •Middlemiss; fruit: salad and ice cream, Mesdames Thompson and Jamieson, sen., and helpers; tearoom, Mrs J. T. Bryant, Miss McMillan, and a band of helpers.
